The MadCity Ski Club should not be confused with the Madison Ski Club, an incorporated organization which was established in 1965 and dissolved in 2015.
As many members of the MadCity Ski Club were previously members of the Madison Ski Club, a short history of the Madison Ski Club is preserved here.
The Madison Ski Club (MSC) was founded in 1963 and was incorporated in 1965. Members included couples, singles, and families from the Madison area, with a few folks from much greater distances. Over the years, many members volunteered their time to serve in leadership positions and to help arrange trips and social events. Friendships were formed that continue to this day.
The Madison Ski Club sponsored two or three week-long trips to world class ski resorts each winter. Ski locations included the western U.S., Canada, and Europe. For a list of the great places the club skied since 1979, see the history of Madison Ski Club Trips .
The Madison Ski Club also sponsored many weekend trips, including bus trips to Lutsen, Minnesota and the UP of Michigan.
The trips were always well planned and complete. Included was group air, train, or bus travel, hotels, some meals, and group-rate lift tickets. In addition to downhill skiing, other activities such as cross-country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, shopping and sightseeing were often available.
On March 2, 2015 the following article was printed in the Wisconsin State Journal. It was written by Doug Moe, and was entitled “Madison Ski Club nears finish line.” You can read it here: Doug Moe_ Madison Ski Club nears finish line _ Columnists _ host.madison
